Aurea Bolaños Perea (she/her/ella) is a passionate reproductive justice advocate and storyteller with almost a decade’s experience in political science. Her work encompasses organizing actions for racial and gender justice, training and coaching elected leaders, and speaking publicly on issues such as abortion rights, language justice, and women’s empowerment.

Aurea was raised in Mexico before moving to the U.S. at the age of 13. She was the co-host of Mujeres de COLOR, the country’s only Spanish-language Reproductive Justice radio show. She also sits on advisory boards to advance language justice and advocacy in the reproductive health, rights, and justice movement.
Reproductive Justice
A long-time Reproductive Justice and abortion rights activist, Aurea brings unique and intersectional perspective to the conversation. Immigrant communities often face compounded barriers to healthcare, including access to reproductive services, due to language, legal status, and systemic inequities. A Latina voice can shed light on these challenges, while also highlighting the resilience, strength, and grassroots activism within these communities. By centering her lived experiences, audiences gain a deeper understanding of reproductive justice as a human right that transcends borders and identities.
Language Justice
Language justice is a key part of Reproductive Justice. Being a first-generation immigrant and Spanish-speaker, Aurea understands first-hand the obstacles people have to face when seeking access to education, housing, and reproductive healthcare -that is before recognizing the language barriers there might be and how to address it.
Latino/a & Gender Politics
Having earned her Master's Degree in American Politics with an emphasis on Race & Gender politics, Aurea's research and expertise explored how women of color, particularly Latinas, navigate systems of power while confronting both racial and gender biases. By analyzing how these dynamics influence public perception, policy-making, and leadership strategies, she sheds light on the unique challenges and strengths that women of color bring to political spaces. Her work highlights the importance of intersectionality in understanding leadership in a diverse society.
Social Media as a Strategy for Activism
After leading the communication strategy for the Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights (COLOR) for nearly four years, Aurea ensured that COLOR's mission presence was recognized on a variety of platforms, especially Tiktok. Thanks to her long-term strategy, COLOR has become a reputable source of information for young people in Colorado.
Political Empowerement
Aurea's work emphasizes the importance of empowering women of color to navigate and transform political systems, recognizing that diverse leadership strengthens democracy. By fostering mentorship, skill-building, and intersectional awareness, she is committed to equipping women of color with the tools to lead with confidence and authenticity. Her passion lies in cultivating future leaders who can challenge systemic barriers and advocate for inclusive, equitable governance.
